An artist, formerly of Liverpool and Manchester, now living in Shoreditch/Hoxton, London. The main theme of my work is transmutation, the ephemeral nature of all things, the mutability of not only nature but of all things artificial and imaginary. It is not just a negative perspective of decay and degradation, but also includes transformation, metamorphosis and evolution. My work utilises appropriated, often mediated images taken from a variety of sources. Helping to introduce a degree of topicality into my work they enable me to perform a series of radical alterations, changing their original message into one of my own. The image is transformed into something different, its purpose altered from advertising a fashion label or illustrating the copy in a Sunday magazine to something fresh and new. The metaphor here is the artist attempting to wrestle with the visceral stronghold the media has on the human worlds perceptions - and hopefully succeeding in creating something relevant in the mass disposability of commercial print. I am not always trying to impose a new order onto the pictures; rather I am attempting to open them up to the possibilities of chaos, arbitrary association, the power of the unconsciousness and random chance.
